Songs We Wish We’d Written – Footshooter

Footshooter by Frightened Rabbit - Proof that there is hope for the music industry. Only downside is that most of it is in Scotland and Ireland. I love this band. I saw them last month. Someone in the crowd shouted out this song and Scott said he would play it later. For the encore he came back out by himself and said that it was the first and probably only time he would play it on the tour. He unplugged his guitar and walked out to the very edge of the stage and we all got real quiet. Then everyone sang along for the "oohs". It was amazing. This guy can just write a stinkin song.

[Disclaimer: if you check them out, their album "Midnight Organ Fight" contains some strong language, but "The Winter of Mixed Drinks" only has one or two occurrences. This song is from the latter.]

Songs We Wish We’d Written – Fire and Rain

Fire and Rain by James Taylor -This song is just difficult to get through. I'm not sure if it's his voice or the lyric or the combination of the two. It's so haunting. Like Homeward Bound, there's really nothing more to say.

Songs We Wish We’d Written – Motorcycle Driveby

Motorcycle Driveby by Third Eye Blind - From 2000 to 2002, I'm not sure that this album ever left my CD changer in my dorm room. I probably heard this song a hundred times before I really listened to it. I love the way that it builds and builds in stages and then resolves. Lyrically, it was very relevant to me around that time in life and still hits me pretty hard when I sit back and take it in. It's equal parts beauty and tragedy - at least that's how I hear it. Couple it with Deep Inside of You and you've got a double dose of greatness.

Songs We Wish We’d Written – Homeward Bound

My friend, Clay, and I recently have been reminiscing on our Texas Country years during college. We were talking about the Pat Green & Cory Morrow record Songs We Wish We'd Written. This got us thinking about the songs we, personally, wish we had written. So, starts a little feature.

Homeward Bound by Simon and Garfunkel - If other artists could convey as much in 2:45 the music landscape would be so much better. There really isn't anything to say about this song that it doesn't say for itself.
