Hey bro. Thanks for the feedback. Umm, yeah, I mean to tell everything would literally take an infinite amount of time/space. I'm trying to shape the career journey, not my entire life story. I could write a book about just my experience in BSM. It was my life.

As to the paranoia piece - I'm still processing just what it was that got me to that place. And wrestling with some stuff in the present tense that is directly related (though there's no paranoia). In a shortened sense it was a combination of having bottled so much stuff in jr. high and high school. That coupled with kind of coming to reality. And then processing all of that in relative isolation without any real place to be authentic so that me in the dorm by myself is one person and me when I'm out is another person. That an I watched The Matrix about twice a week. (That probably provides more questions than answers. You're welcome.)

Dude, I have enjoyed the journey so far and following along with you, but I feel this is like the short story, abridged version! Like, I want so much more! When you mention that "There was a lot of stuff, but the biggest way it presented itself was paranoia" I wanted to know how that was, or why that was, and how it showed itself....

You are the ultimate teaser.

Let your heart be your guide. Better to have irregular updates that are quality than regular updates that no one wants to see.

I think that google + has the potential to replace many different communications that we rely on today. It has the potential to replace my RSS feeds especially once google allows entities and groups to set up accounts (coming soon) I've already pretty much replaced my feeds like this with Twitter and I see google being able to to do it better because you won't be limited to the 140 characters.
I saw this posted before by Mike Elgen (https://plus.google.com/113117251731252114390/posts)and I think it's pretty accurate about how g+ is:
Instead of saying, "I'm going to write a blog post now," or "I'm going to send an "e-mail" or "I think I'll tweet something" you simply say what you have to say, then decide who you're going to say it to.

If you address it to "Public," it's a blog post.

If you address it to "Your Circles" it's a tweet.

If you address it to your "My Customers" Circle it's a business newsletter.

If you address it to a single person, it can be a letter to your mother.

I'd say this is pretty revolutionary."

I leave you with this funny Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGugj1ym594&

And a nice infographic:

If Plus can create that micro-segment, as you say "without being cut off from the rest of the web"; and if they can do so with authenticity and relevance to every target audience, then they will have a massive win.

This is the one element that I did not take the time to explore above - adoption. It is so hard to get someone to add another app/tool/site/network into their overly cluttered lives. This is part two of why Ning failed: "you mean i have to set up a whole new account and profile and all this stuff?"

If there is a solution that bridges that gap then it will be unstoppable. And it will take a machine like Google that can accept limited adoption as it tests and tries new methodologies.

Ryan,

I agree that Plus isn't there just yet but the potential is enormous.

The lack of a workable interest graph is really one of the biggest complaints about social in general right now which is why there are so many posts on Plus about the need for filtering/channels/labels/facets whatever you want to call it.

Google came out at the very beginning and said that search wasn't ready yet so they didn't want to include it in the the field trial but when it is ready you can guarantee that it will be awesome and will most likely include some method for tagging content.

Ning probably was ahead of its time - not because of the functionality it offered but because overall social adoption was smaller so you couldn't support and sustain an isolated, independent community when restricted to such a small niche. This is why I say that Plus will be better as it allows us to have our niches but without the limitatiuon of being cut off from the rest of the web.
